Book Recommendation - The 5 Love Languages

So, I have had quite a few friends tell me about this cool book called the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. The premise of the book is that there are 5 basic ways that we as humans show our love to each other. They are: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. Each person has a primary love language they use to communicate his/her love both showing and receiving. The coolest part I think is the way that I can learn how to love my best friends better by knowing their primary love languages.

There is an online quiz that will give you a taste of the languages.

Here is a link to the quiz: CLICK HERE.

In case you were wondering…

Jennie’s Love Language Scores:
8 Words of Affirmation
3 Quality Time
11 Receiving Gifts
4 Acts of Service
4 Physical Touch

Anyway, this is all a big lead up to being able to show you how I have been loving on my friends lately. I have made friendship bracelets, and today a few of my closest friends tweeted pictures of them wearing each of the bracelets. It made me super happy, and I wanted to share it.

Late Night Post - An Opinion on PB&J

About 15 minutes ago I realized that I had not eaten in a little over 8 hours (save for a few chips and some soda - I know it’s way healthy) I trudged to the kitchen in hopes of finding something quick and easy. I scan the shelves of my pantry and to my surprise and delight I find two pieces of bread. Not only are there exactly two pieces of bread, but they are my ABSOLUTE favorite. I adore the “heels” of a loaf of bread; they are perfect for tuna fish salad or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I understand this puts me in small company, but I like what I like. I grabbed my organic peanut butter, and I remembered that my parents had sent me some guava jelly from Florida that I had not opened.

It occurred to me that I had not had much guava jelly since my move to Texas, and I had no idea of the memory of my childhood that flavor would invoke. I grew up in a house that knew no other jelly than Palmalito guava. I believe that my mother has never ever bought grape jelly and would occasionally purchase various preserves, but 95% of the time it was all guava all the time. Anyway, I like my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches a specific and exact way. I prefer two “foldovers” to one “whole sandwich” cut in half, and I will always place a higher ratio of peanut butter to jelly/jam. Suffice it to say, it was quite an amazing sandwich, and I am now filled with warm feelings and fond memories of my childhood. A quick Amazon search shows no Palmalito, but if your local grocery store does not carry guava jelly you can order the Goya brand.

Edit: You can also purchase Palmalito’s jelly directly from their website.

tired of your friends grabbing for their phones during meals? try the phone stack game - everyone puts their phone face down in the middle of the table, normal beeps and rings occur, and the first person to actually remove their phone from the stack/check their phone has to foot the bill. awesome.

Omg brilliant.

Decluttering in 2012 - The First Two Weeks.

Remember when I blogged about Decluttering your house in 2012? I have to admit that I have not been following the calendar well…at all. However, the idea of doing a little something everyday to declutter my life has been the impetus that I have needed to really jumpstart this project. My bedroom is currently the most clean and organized that it has ever been. That fact is both exciting and sad at the same time ( but mostly exciting) I want to share a few before and after pictures that I have taken.

Here you can see my bedroom on 31DEC11 as well as what it looks like on 12JAN12.

This is what you used to see when you first walked in to my room:

These are the piles of junk at the foot of my bed.

I didn’t realize that my unmentionables were on such display until I uploaded this pic. Eeek! Also, that odd looking white and silver thing is a lightsaber I got for Christmas from my super cool friend Lucy who blogs over at Thought on Annelise.

PROGRESS PICTURES (because I have not completed everything yet)

IMAG0088

At the foot of the bed. WAY better. I plan to reorganize the space soon, but I wanted to make it look good until I decide what to do with it.

IMAG0089

Another shot of the wall.

BEFORE:

IMAG0021

View from my bathroom into the bedroom. Under the bed is a complete disaster.

PROGRESS:

IMAG0085

Under the bed is clear! (and I’m sleeping on brighter sheets in anticipation for spring)

BEFORE:

IMAG0007

The other side of my bed. Not as bad as the rest of the room.

PROGRESS:

IMAG0091

The other side of the bed looks pretty good. Gotta finish the bedside table top.

BEFORE:

IMAG0006

My practically unusable desk.

STILL THE SAME:

IMAG0090

Desk area needs some work still. Not a whole lot changed over here.

MORE SHOTS:

IMAG0009

Exiting my room you can see my sewing machine in the box with my current project laid on top. I haven’t done anything here.

IMAG0023

Another view of the exit - also not changed.

I’ve been working on my garage area quite a bit as well, but I haven’t taken any progress shots yet, and that will probably happen sometime this weekend.
